Preventative measures
Prevention – act before it burns
Preventative measures to prevent bladder complaints are advisable. What can be done for prevention?

You should drink at least two litres of water daily. This helps to wash out infectious agents and strengthens the bladder. Avoid alcohol, coffee and carbonated drinks, since these can further irritate the bladder.

D-Mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar and offers a gentle option for prevention of bladder inflammation (cystitis). D-Mannose binds to inflammation-provoking bacteria on the bladder wall. Subsequently the bacteria are excreted in the urine along with the D-Mannose.

Choose loose panties made of wool and only wear panty liners occasionally, since these produce a moist climate, which is particularly, favoured by bacteria.

Always empty your bladder immediately after sexual intercourse and drink two glasses of water. This will wash out any bacteria, which may have penetrated. Also, avoid spermicides or diaphragms, since these can damage the mucous membranes.

Excessively frequent washing can damage the protective acidic coating of the skin. Be careful not to use disinfectants, aggressive soaps or intimate sprays. The most suitable washing solutions are pH-neutral or acidic.

Protect yourself from hypothermia and in cold times of the year keep the kidney areas extra warm. Wet or sweaty clothes should be changed promptly.

Gut bacteria frequently cause urinary tract infections. It is therefore advisable to always clean the intimate regions from front to back after going to the toilet. Further, you should go immediately to the toilet when you feel the urge to pass water, since an over-distended bladder encourages the multiplication of microbes.

A well-balanced nutrition, rich in vital substances keeps you healthy.

Alternative to antibiotics?
Why are women so frequently affected? Frequent kidney and bladder conditions in women occur primarily due to the shorter urethra in the female sex. This means that microbes transmitted e.g. sexually can take root more quickly and produce an infection. This predisposition can be negatively influenced by a weak immune system, thin mucosal membranes, hormones and inappropriate intimate care.
